QUOTABLES: UFC welterweight Jon Fitch discusses his shoulder injury, wants B.J. Penn rematch when he returns

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

FitchJon_150_30.jpg
"I'm going to have to get the labrum worked on, and I also have a tear of one of the rotator cuff muscles that's going to need to be repaired, too... It's functional. I can move around and do stuff with it. I could probably even fight with it. But going through a camp and going through six-hour days of workouts, eventually it's going to break down. I don't think I would get through a full fight camp without it breaking down completely... It's really depressing. My most favorite thing in the world to do every day with my life, I don't get to do now for a few months.

[A rematch is] the best fight for each of us. I think it would be dumb for either of us to take a fight with anybody else but each other before we settle it. Either me or B.J. would love to just fight the winner of Jake (Shields) and [Georges St-Pierre]. But I think it's realistic that if Jake wins that fight, that there will be a rematch. And if GSP wins that fight, he only fights a couple times a year. So he'll probably take a break, and there will be time for [Penn and me] to fight. If GSP moves up to fight Anderson (Silva), there's still time for him to do that and me and B.J. to fight. There's a lot of options. I hope it works out favorably for me. But I can't ask the world to stop turning just because I have an injury."

-Jon Fitch talks to MMAJunkie.com about his shoulder injury and his desire to still have his rematch with B.J. Penn upon his return.

Penick's Analysis: It sounds like it's not as severe necessarily as it could have been feared, as it's not a complete rotator cuff tear and he can still function with it. Hopefully it's not the type of injury that will have a very real negative effect on his skill set when he's able to return. I'd agree with him that the Penn rematch makes the most sense for both fighters after their draw, but it really depends on a lot of factors right now, mostly just how long he'll be out, but also when Penn is able to return, what GSP does after the Jake Shields fight at UFC 129 and how the rest of the welterweight division handles their business while he's out of action. But with their first encounter ending in a draw, the two will meet again.

Lightweights Edson Barboza and Ross Pearson to meet in Brazil at UFC 134 this August

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoUFC_150_889.jpg
The UFC's long-awaited return to Brazil continues to fill up, and the UFC on Tuesday announced that Ultimate Fighter season nine winner Ross Pearson will meet Rio de Janeiro native Edson Barboza on the card in a lightweight contest.

The hard-hitting Barboza moved his perfect record to 8-0 in his second appearance in the Octagon last month, as he defeated WEC-import Anthony Njokuani by decision at UFC 128 in that event's "Fight of the Night." That win was a follow-up to his successful debut last November, where he destroyed Mike Lullo's legs with kicks, leading to the stoppage in the third round.

Pearson bounced back from the first loss of his UFC career when he defeated Spencer Fisher by decision in February in Australia. The TUF 9 winner had won his first three fights in the UFC before being submitted by Cole Miller last September, but the win over the longtime UFC vet Fisher has him back on track.

UFC 134 takes place from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 27, headlined by the Middleweight Championship bout between Anderson Silva and Yushin Okami.

Penick's Analysis: This card is beginning to fill up nicely, and the UFC will continue putting a Brazilian in each fight for the home country crowd. This fight is a really good one in the lightweight division between two very good strikers who are sure to bring a very entertaining fight for the card. It will be Pearson's boxing against Barboza's kicks and overall striking game, and that makes for a very interesting fight overall.

Pregnant woman wins fight, but now out of the mix for Carano match

Female fighters bring some unique differences to the table versus their male counterparts. They face different challenges when cutting weight, but that's nothing compared to the reason Cindy Dandois just dropped out of the mix for a June fight against Strikeforce star Gina Carano.

Dandois is three months pregnant, and fought in mid-March, when she was just over two months into her pregnancy. She beat Jorina Baars on a fight card in Belgium. Dandois confirmed to Cagewriter that she is pregnant and was for her last fight, but didn't know it at the time.

"Idid tests before because my weight was more difficult to reach, but they were all negative so I didn't realize it," Dandois said in an email to Cagewriter. She even took a test at a hospital before getting an X-ray, and that came up negative.

This all begs the question -- do all state commissions that control fights need to start administering a pregnancy test along with tests for PEDs before females step into the cage? Nevada State Athletic Commission does require pregnancy testing, though that would not have changed anything for Dandois as her pregnancy tests came up negative.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker discussed the pregnancy news and said a new opponent will be found shortly for Carano. Carano will return to fighting after 21-plus months off while busy with a movie career. Dandois said that she hopes to return to fighting shape soon after the birth of her child.

"If I wasn't pregnant I would've agreed for this fight because it was and is still my biggest dream to fight her one time," Dandois said. "I hope Strikeforce still wants me and asks me after my pregnancy. If I can sign with them Iwill start training again right away so I can be ready to take any fight in about 2-3 months after my baby is born, and my family will be thereto support me."

Though it's causing a hiccup in her fighting career, Dandois is grateful for the pregnancy.

"God gave me this child present. Who am I for not being thankful for it. Some women have to move earth and fire to get a child and I got blessed like this, having already two beautiful kids. I guess fighting I can still do after I got my baby, but my children are for the rest of my life!!"

Jason "Mayhem" Miller meets Aaron Simpson in UFC return at UFC 132

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoUFC_150_901.jpg
It didn't take long for the UFC to book Jason "Mayhem" Miller in a fight. Just a day after Miller's signing with the UFC was reported, the organization has announced that he will make his first appearance in the Octagon in over six years at UFC 132 in July.

UFC officials announced on Saturday that Miller will meet Aaron Simpson at the event in a middleweight matchup, Miller's first UFC fight since a loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 52 in his only previous UFC appearance.

The host of MTV's "Bully Beatdown," Miller has put together a record of 12-3 with one no contest in 16 fights since the loss to St. Pierre in 2005, with wins over Robbie Lawler, Tim Kennedy and Kazushi Sakuraba in that stretch. He has won two straight fights, but hasn't fought since the Sakuraba win last September.

Simpson is coming off a decision win over Mario Miranda at the end of March at UFC Fight Night 24. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak to Chris Leben and Mark Munoz in 2010.

UFC 132 takes place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, headlined by the UFC Bantamweight Championship bout between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.

Penick's Analysis: This is a good fight for Miller's first fight back in the UFC. Simpson's a tough opponent, but Miller has a lot of experience against a lot of very high level opponents. Miller will come in as the favorite in this one, but it will be a good fight for both. It may or may not get televised, but considering the troubles he was having securing a fight in Strikeforce before his contract expired the simple fact that he's got a fight set is probably a relief.

Bellator 41 draws lowest rating of season four on MTV2

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Logo_Bellator_150_282.jpg
Bellator ran unopposed once again on Saturday night on MTV2 from the Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Ariz., headlined by a bout featuring Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren and his controversial decision win over Marcos Galvao, but the event drew a series low for viewership on the network.

After garnering their second highest rating last week with Bellator 40 - which featured an hour of overlap with Strikeforce's "Diaz vs. Daley" event on Showtime - Bellator 41 drew just 132,000 viewers to MTV2, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.

That marked a 39 percent decrease from the previous event, and was 18,000 viewers shy of the previous low, the March Bellator 37 event. The ratings for each of season four's events are below:

* Bellator 35 ratings: 200,000
* Bellator 36 ratings: 230,000
* Bellator 37 ratings: 173,000
* Bellator 38 ratings: 150,000
* Bellator 39 ratings: 174,000
* Bellator 40 ratings: 218,000
* Bellator 41 ratings: 132,000

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: The shifting timeslots, the day of the week, the non-HD broadcasts, the unknown names, etc., it's all factoring in to having no momentum for these broadcasts. The number last week could have meant MMA fans who were already going to tune in for Strikeforce on Showtime also decided to flip over to Bellator since it was on, but the marks for the unopposed broadcasts are getting worse. This is not a good number unopposed, and this weekend's broadcast could get even worse. Then they take a week off and who knows where the numbers will lie when they come back the first weekend of May. I'll continue to contend that Saturday night's were a really bad night to run for them. Saturday is typically a going out night for the key demographics for MMA, and though the UFC can get a large viewership for multiple events a month, no organization is going to get viewers to tune in every Saturday for three months straight. Maybe it doesn't matter, as the numbers are still larger than what MTV2 was getting in this timeslot, but this drop is not a good sign.

Randy Couture says UFC 129 bout with Lyoto Machida will be his last

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

CoutureRandy_210_48.jpg
Though UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture has "retired" from MMA competition twice before, the 47-year-old legend now says he's sticking to his guns, and this month's UFC 129 bout with Lyoto Machida will be his last.

"I believe this is my last fight," Couture said in comments made to ESPN's Josh Gross. "I know the UFC is probably going to have other ideas, especially with acquiring Strikeforce and all that. They're probably going to try to draw me into another fight but I don't think that's going to happen. I want to stick to my guns and this is the last one."

Couture's previous retirements came after his UFC 57 loss to Chuck Liddell and then in late 2007 when the UFC failed to acquire Fedor Emelianenko he declared his retirement in an attempt to set up
a fight with "The Last Emperor" outside of the organization. In both instances he returned to action in the UFC, but with a budding acting career gaining steam and more options being made available to him there, he says this time it's for real and he wants to go out on his own terms.

"I will miss the competition immensely but I want to go out on my terms," he said. "I want to go out when I think it's time to go out and not because I lost this fight or lost that fight or because I had an injury that precludes me from training the way I want to train.

"I want to make the decision on my own."

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: This isn't at all surprising, and it's something he's hinted at and even said aloud prior to this, but these statements are the most definitive comment he's made on the subject. At 47, no one will have anything negative to say about him hanging up the gloves. He's accomplished so much already in his career, and has been one of the faces of the UFC for a long time. The fact that he hasn't suffered numerous losses in a row to finish out his career will be something he can hang his hat on, as even a loss in his final fight isn't a slight on him or his career. Lyoto Machida was the champion of this division just last year, and losing a fight to him won't in any way affect Couture's legacy as a fighter; that's been established for a long time. But win or lose, this is the way to go out if you're Couture, and while fans will be sad to see him go, it's simply time. UFC 129 will be one last attempt to prove he can still hang with anyone, and even if he pulls off the upset, that will be more than enough.

UPDATE: During a media conference call on Tuesday, Couture reiterated his stance, and made it clear this was a decision a long time in the making. Said Couture, "It's been an ongoing transition for me. I kind of want to go out on my own terms and decide when enough is enough. I think that time has come... I think it's time to focus on the other things I have going in my life after the fight."

Daley interview: The Brit is open to UFC return, but he’s not going to seek out White

Who saw this one coming? Back in May of 2010, Paul Daley was fired by the UFC.Seconds after aloss toJosh Koscheck, Daley lost his cool andthrew a punch at the winner. When he was approached by an angry Dana White in the cage, Daleydidn't exactly grovel for forgiveness. Anincensed White, cut Daley and said he'd never fight for the UFC again. This weekend because of a bizarre twist in the fight game,Daley'salready back collecting a check fromthe UFC's parent companyZuffa.

Daley challenges Nick Diaz for the Strikeforce welterweight title (Showtime 10 p.m ET/PT). Thisis the first majorStrikeforce since the promotion was purchased by the UFC three weeks ago. So Daley didn't make it 12 months without once again fighting for his former employer.

"All this is good for me.This is what I wanted to do. I wanted to be the rival.I wanted to prove something," Daley told Cagewriter.com about his motivation afterbeing fired. "This now is the biggest opportunity, the biggest stage. Howbetter to be the champion of an organization, that they're rivaling is owned by the same company, that shunned you, kicked you awayto be their chanpion again?"

It's a helluva storyline. Never before has a fighter who crossed White been presented with such a chance.

"It makes a lot more interesting if I become the champion," Daley said. "The black sheep of the family becomes the greatest provider for the family ... now, what's up with that?"

Daley doesn't sound like he has anything against the UFC or White, but he's steadfast in his belief that he's handle the postfight apologies appropriately since the incident went down.

"If there's still an opportunity there,I ain't gonna reach out for it," Daley said. "As far as I'm concerned I've done enoughin apologizing through the press and the media for what I've."

Ultimately, the guy he needs to smooth things over with is White.

"I've never spoke to Dana personally or face-to-face or on the phone about the incident itself. I have no reason to reach out to him. He's the employer. If he wants me with a company, then he reaches out to me and says 'hey look I want you to be with my company. Let's sit down and talk."

Daley thinks his problems with White began well before the Koscheck fight saying he was brought in to lose against guys like Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett. When he didn't and carried himself in arrogant fashion, it may have turned off the powers that be.

Daley wants the win and Strikeforce title belt in the worst way. If he doesn't win and never makes it back to the UFC, the Brit is confident that he'll be fine. He's got an entrepreneurial spirit, is a good self-promoter and knows he candraw a crowd to watch him fight somewhere around the world.

"I'll be fine no matter what," Daley said. "I've always been good at making money. That's why I ain't scared to say what I've got to say. They're feeding me now but away from her, I'll still get fed."

Toronto's Renaissance Hotel inside Rogers Centre offering UFC 129 viewing opportunity

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

UFC_129_poster_180_13.jpg
Although this month's UFC 129 event has been sold out for some time, with a smashing record 55,000 tickets sold for the UFC's first stadium event, UFC fans have another option for seeing the card inside the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The Renaissance Toronto Downtown Hotel, located inside the Rogers Centre, is offering fans a unique view of the event by booking one of their 68 stadium-view rooms for the night. Up to four guests per room can enjoy the night's action from the room, which includes sliding windows to open up the room to the stadium atmosphere.

For $1,300 ($325 per person with four guests), you can book the room for the night to be in attendance for the UFC's historic event, headlined by the UFC Welterweight Championship between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields.

This special event doesn't come without caveats, however, so fans should be prepared for increased security at the hotel for the event, a strict limit guests in the rooms for the event, and no outside food or beverages being allowed.

Full information on this unique viewing opportunity is available at www.RenaissanceGuestServices.com/campaign/UFC129

Penick's Analysis: They're limiting the rooms to four people per room and enforcing no outside food and beverage to keep things within what will be available to those inside the venue itself in terms of food and drink. And, they won't allow for big groups to then pile into the rooms to watch the card, which all makes sense. It's going to be a very interesting event overall on a number of levels, and for the potentially 272 fans that could get these rooms it will have an added uniqueness for a hotel stay.

UFC secures venues in Liverpool, Nottingham for potential October 15 event

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoUFC_150_887.jpg
The UFC will return to the U.K. for the second straight October this year, as Dave Meltzer at WrestlingObserver.com reports that the organization has booked two possible venues for an October 15 event.

Per the report, venues in Nottingham and Liverpool have been tapped for the event, and Nottingham could be the leading candidate should Dan Hardy be available for the card, as that is his hometown.

Unless they book another event in the U.K. prior to the October date, it would be the UFC's first event there since last October's UFC 120 in London, England. This would mark the UFC's first-ever event in either city, as they have previously run in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle.

Though their returns to the United Kingdom have gotten fewer and farther between, UFC executive Marshall Zelaznik has promised a more frequent return across the pond in the near future.

Minotauro Nogueira says Anderson Silva vs. Yushin Okami coming to UFC Rio in August [UPDATED]

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Anderson_Silva_UFC_still_180_29.jpg
Yushin Okami has awaited a title shot in the UFC's middleweight division with fight after fight and win after win, and now it appears that shot may finally be coming.

Former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio "Minotauro" Nogueira, one of the trainers of UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva, says that Silva will face Okami this summer.

According to Nogueira, who revealed the bout in comments made to Tatame.com, Silva and Okami will square off on August 27 when the UFC makes only their second appearance in Silva's native Brazil at UFC Rio.

The title matchup will be a rematch of a fight that took place at a Rumble on the Rock event in 2006 prior to Silva's entrance into the UFC. Okami won the fight by disqualification after being knocked silly by an upkick from Silva while on his knees in Silva's guard. He was unable to continue and was awarded the fight on DQ. That was the last time Silva's record was notched with an "L," and he's won 14 straight fights in the five years since that bout.

Okami has gone 10-2 through 12 appearances in the UFC dating back to 2006. His two losses in the UFC came by decision to former champion Rich Franklin, and former title challenger Chael Sonnen. Since the loss to Sonnen, Okami has won three straight, and earned his title shot with a win over Nate Marquardt at UFC 122 last November.

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: This is the right fight to make, and having Silva defend his title on this card is a good move by the UFC. Okami has earned a shot at Silva, and the UFC can sell that Silva will essentially be out to avenge his last "loss." This is a great fight for the fans in Brazil, and even if the UFC still wants to put together GSP vs. Silva, this gives the Welterweight Champ time to bulk up the way he wants to in order to properly make the move to middleweight.

UPDATE: According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, the UFC is still waiting on the result of this month's UFC 129 main event between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields before making any definitive decisions on Silva's next fight.

Strikeforce Champ Gilbert Melendez Brutalizes Tatsuya Kawajiri

by Michael David SmithStrikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez made short work of Tatsuya Kawajiri on Saturday night, pummeling him with powerful strikes and finishing him with brutal elbows to the head on the ground to win a first-round technical knockout.

Melendez beat Kawajiri in a close decision in Pride in 2006, but there was nothing close this time around: Melendez dropped Kawajiri with punches in the opening seconds of the first round, blasted him with knees in the Thai clinch, took control on the ground and eventually finished the fight with vicious elbows.

Strikeforce confirms Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Ovince St. Preux not happening on June 18

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoStrikeforce2010_105_136.png
Strikeforce jumped the gun a bit on Monday, announcing a fight between Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and Ovince St. Preux for the June 18 event in Dallas when the bout, in fact, is not happening.

Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz confirmed that the bout is not taking place to multiple outlets, and Lawal is expected to fight in July on a Strikeforce pay-per-view event, as MMAWeekly.com reported last week.

The June 18 event comes to the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and features the next two quarterfinal bouts in the Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix in Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers. It also features the return of Gina Carano and two more heavyweight fights.

Penick's Analysis: It looks like they simply forgot to change their poster when they sent out their Insider Newsletter on Monday, which had the bout listed on there. It's a fight that would have made sense for the card were they not putting more heavyweight fights on there, but it had already been reported that Lawal was being removed from the June 18 card. This fight would work in July if they still want to go with it, though it may be Lawal against Roger Gracie instead.

UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen's NSAC licensing hearing delayed to mid-May

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Chael_Sonnen_180_10.jpg
Chael Sonnen has once again found himself delayed in getting everything taken care of in order to make his return to the cage, as MMAJunkie.com reports that his licensing hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission has been pushed back from April 27 to mid-May.

Per the report the delay comes as Sonnen's probation officer won't clear him to enter Clark County next week due to the Laughlin River Run motorcycle rally. There is apparently a mandate in place to keep convicted felons out of the county during the rally after rampant violence at past versions of the annual rally, namely the 2002 rally that saw a brawl break out between rival motorcycle gangs The Mongols and Hells Angels. That brawl left three bikers dead and led to this "preemptive step" against any felons entering the county during subsequent rallys.

Sonnen will be appearing in front of the commission in an attempt to get himself re-licensed in the state both to fight and to corner other fighters. Sonnen admitted to using testosterone for what he claims is a diagnosed condition of hypogonadism for his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 117, and at his suspension appeal with the California State Athletic Commission in December, Sonnen stated he had been on the treatment prior to his UFC 109 fight with Nate Marquardt in Nevada, and that he had gotten approval from NSAC executive director Keith Kizer for the treatment.

He has since admitted that no such conversations took place, though he falls back on saying his manager spoke with Kizer and he claims he took his managers advice. Due to those statements, his TRT and more, there's no guarantee he will be licensed by the state of Nevada. However, he will have a chance to answer the commission's questions and they will then determine by a majority vote whether or not they will license him to fight and to corner others.

Link to Original Source Article

Penick's Analysis: This circus is delayed a few weeks longer for Sonnen. This hearing with the NSAC is going to be interesting, and could turn into a similar mess as the one he had with the CSAC in December. Still, moving it to mid-May would still allow the UFC to tap him as one of the coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 14 if that's the route they want to take, as the season won't begin filming until June. I think signs are still pointing to that unfortunately being the case, but we'll find out what the NSAC rules at that meeting next month before the next step can be determined.

Video analysis: How awful was the Mousasi-Jardine decision?

Gegard Mousasi is a damn good sport because many fighters may have flipped their lid when they only earned a draw after pummeling Keith Jardine for much of their 15-minute fight. Jardine was tough as nails, but appeared to be on the losing end of a nasty slugfest. Why was it a draw? Because of another judging snafu where one judge, and possibly a second, overvalued the takedown.

After giving the relatively even first round to Mousasi, judge Abe Belardo scored the second round 10-9 for Jardine. That was a stanza where Jardine scored two takedowns, but only kept Mousasi on his back for 41 seconds, and even the most kind scorer could give "The Dean of Mean" credit for landing five shots. Meanwhile, on the feet, Mousasi outlanded Jardine, 32-3.

Yahoo!'s lead MMA writer Kevin Iole joined us to give his take on what happened and if we should be excited for Mousasi-Jardine II somewhere down the road.

Belardo's scoreof 28-28 matched Lester Griffin, who gave the first round to Jardine. The other judge had it 29-27 in favor of Mousasi.

TUF 12 runner-up Michael Johnson to face Edward Faaloloto at UFC on Versus 4 in June

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

LogoVS_150_18.jpg
Ultimate Fighter 12 runner-up Michael Johnson will get his first fight in the UFC at the UFC on Versus 4 card in June, as the organization announced on Monday that he will meet WEC vet and UFC newcomer Edward Faaloloto on the card.

The 24-year-old Johnson brings an 8-5 record into his second appearance in the Octagon. A member of Georges St. Pierre's team on TUF 12, Johnson defeated Pablo Garza, Aaron Wilkinson, Alex "Bruce Leroy" Cacares and Nam Phan to make it to the finals. However, Johnson was defeated by Jonathan Brookins in the finals of the season 12 lightweight tournament in December.

Faaloloto took on Anthony Njokuani at WEC 52 in his first appearance under the Zuffa banner, suffering his first defeat in the fight. After winning his first two career fights, Faaloloto gave a valiant effort against Njokuani, but was overwhelmed late in the second round and finished off with only seconds left in the round.

UFC on Versus 4 takes place from Pittsburgh's Consol Energy Center on June 26, and also features Tyson Griffin vs. Manny Gamburyan, Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vasquez, Pat Barry vs. Cheick Kongo and Matt Brown vs. Rich Attonito.

Jon Fitch's injury worse than expected, out 4-6 months after surgery next week

By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

FitchJon_150_29.jpg
UFC welterweight Jon Fitch will be out of action a bit longer than he was hoping, as the former title challenger posted on his Twitter account on Tuesday that he will need to undergo surgery next week on his injured shoulder.

Fitch's injury forced him out of a UFC 132 bout with B.J. Penn, a rematch of their UFC 127 headlining bout that ended in a draw. He was hoping to rehab and return to training, but after meeting with his doctor today he got the bad news.

"This is the longest I've ever gone without training. Hope the doc has good news today," Fitch wrote early in the day. Then came the bad news:

"Looks like I will be getting shoulder surgery next week. Not the news I was looking for."

When asked on Twitter how long he would be out for, Fitch revealed it's now expected to be four to six months after surgery.

Penick's Analysis: Penn won't be out nearly as long, so I think we'll see him return to action early in the fall against someone else, and a rematch with Fitch could come either later in the year or early in 2012. Hopefully for Fitch the surgery goes off without a hitch and he can rehab the shoulder back to health sooner rather than later. This is definitely unfortunate news, but Fitch is a resilient fighter and he'll get back as soon as he's able.
