Showtime airs "M-1 Challenge 26: Bennett vs. Garner" on July 8
M-1 Global and Showtime officials today announced that the organization will partner to broadcast a July 8 event titled "M-1 Challenge 26: Bennett vs. Garner."
The Russian-based fight promoters head to The Hangar in Costa Mesa, Calif., for the event, which sees a rematch between M-1 Selection 2010 heavyweight tournament finalists Pat Bennett and Kenny Garner in the evening's main event.

UFC?s Global Expansion
MMANEWS.COM Staff Writer

Undeniably, ever since the UFC transformed from sensational spectacle to the organized sport that it is today, its global marketability has also grown drastically. It has, in fact, grown to such extend that in the last two years, the UFC has already travelled out of the US a total of ten times, while UFC 134 is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August 2011 and another future event is rumored to take place in late 2011 in Canada yet again.

For the most part, the UFC?s venture to global grounds has been a financial success with UFC 129 having a record-breaking gate attendance of &000000000005572400000055,724. Often-times called by UFC President Dana White the ?mecca of the Mixed Martial Arts,? Canada has steadily become a valuable marketing platform for the sport of MMA and particularly to the UFC, mainly due to the popularity of its welterweight frontrunner, the ever so popular and rated pound-for-pound number one fighter in the world, George ?Rush? St Pierre.

Yet Dana White and the UFC promotion are not satisfied with merely taking over the American continent, but are planning to endeavour newer grounds and possibly bigger markets overseas in addition to those already conquered. At the UFC 131 pre-fight conference, White reported that there will be events taking place in Sweden and China in the near future stating that the organization?s global success is essentially due to the fact that ?fighting is the one sport that crosses borders very well.? The UFC has also done a great job in securing talent from all over the world, particularly marquee fighters like aforementioned St Pierre, Anderson Silva, Cain Velasquez, George Sotiropoulos and Dennis Siver, among a great many others, all capable to attract huge sales revenue in their respective international markets or even most likely anywhere else in the world as well.

Dana also asserted at the press-conference that worldwide recession has not yet had a significant impact on the UFC, if any, and the sport of MMA is becoming ever so popular all around the world. With the recent acquisition of Strikeforce, the two biggest MMA organizations have now joined forces under the Zuffa, LLC banner bringing each a rich talent pool and a world of opportunities for prospective blockbuster fights.

Yet, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship marches forth to new locations and previously unexplored markets with relative ease, there is still one major US pay-rolling arena that has eluded the organization for several years, namely that of Madison Square Garden in the state of New York. The UFC?s first and last, as of yet, event to be held in New York was in Buffalo on September 1995, though the UFC President has publically proclaimed that this may be the definitive year during which the worldwide phenomenon may finally break into the New York market as well.

BETTING CONTEST RESULTS
The Betting Champion at UFC 130 was Danny Mellor. Apparently Mellor is allergic to fame, as he laid a goose egg, missing on all of his bets. As a result, challenger and MMA Torch Editor Jamie Penick is the new champion. Penick hardly set the bar high, as his only successful bet was $100 on Brin Stann, which paid $166.67. Um, congratulations on backing into the title, boss man.
Jamie will have a tough go next week, as he will be defending his title against, you guessed it, Kubi. Kubi more than doubled his initial $1000, and will now challenge for both the Confidence Picks and the Betting Game titles. Try and guess who will be named performer of the night.
CONFIDENCE GAME POOL:
We had 24 players for the UFC 130 Confidence Picks Game. Here is a breakdown on how many players picked each fighter on the UFC 129 card:

ENNIS NEWS BLOG: UFC TV Deal, Flyweight, Nick Diaz vacates, Hamill-Rampage buyrate
It was a big news day in the MMA world on Thursday, specifically (and kind of by definition) as it pertains to the UFC. Let's run it down point by point and see what it all means.
Five Round Non-Title Fights
I think this is great. How many times has a main event fight ended after the third round and you've wanted more? I know for me it's been pretty often. When you've got main event-caliber guys going out there, they're going to be capable of going five rounds. We're going to see more decisive endings to main event fights, and that's definitely a good thing. The next step could be extending this to feature fights that aren't main events - like number one contender fights. It may be a bit before we see that, but it only seems logical that it will happen eventually.
Flyweight Division on the Horizon
More divisions means more fighters, more fights, and more events. (Although in reality I'm sure the decision to add the division came after the opposite thought progression.) It's always good to have a place for everyone to fit in. Demetrious Johnson is going to be the first guy who comes to most peoples' minds when thinking about guys who could drop to 125 pounds, but Joseph Benavidez and a bunch of guys currently fighting at Tachi Palace will have something to say about being the next big thing among the little guys. The UFC has never held a mult-event tournament to crown a champion outside its unofficial mini-tournaments for the lightweight title (which ended in a draw between BJ Penn and Caol Uno and soured Zuffa on tournaments in general) and heavyweight title (which was kind of officially a tournament, but not really.) Getting a real deal, 16 man tournament to decide the first UFC Flyweight Champion could be good stuff.
Nick Diaz Vacates the Strikeforce Welterweight Title to Fight GSP
Well, yeah. Next up: Gilbert Melendez. It's inevitable, and quite frankly he's got the best shot of any Strikeforce champion, including Diaz, at dethroning the current UFC champ. That's no knock on Frankie Edgar - Melendez has been in beast mode for the last while.
Josh Barnett Says His Unlicensed Status in Texas is a "Non-Story"
This is ridiculous! How could anyone believe that Barnett would have trouble getting licensed?!
Rampage vs. Hamill Is Looking at Under 400k Buys
Ouch. And we thought Hamill would be a draw...
Possible New TV Deal for the UFC
This has got to be an exciting and terrifying prospect, however it ends up panning out. I've got a lot of thoughts on what could go down if the UFC ends up buying controlling interest in G4, but it's too much speculation at this point to even get into it. There are so many exciting possibilities coming up pertaining to how the UFC will be distributed. They've got a lot going on with social media, they've announced a partnership with XBOX 360, and we're seeing every fight air from their events. None of this means anything without a TV deal. And not just a regular TV deal. It's got to be a good one. Spike is pretty much the UFC channel right now, so even if they get Bellator to replace the UFC after their departure (which I don't buy as a sure thing just yet,) they're going to be looking at almost a complete rebranding. And for the UFC, what's next? A weekly show somewhere? Will TUF survive? Will it be rebranded as well? Will the prelims still be aired on TV before PPV events? How many live shows will we get on a new deal? Will they get into the NBC/Comcast family? Will that lead to a network deal? Will they sign another exclusive deal with a cable network? Will ESPN be looking to cash in? What does this do to a Showtime deal after the Strikeforce contract expires? Is it the final nail in the coffin? If they do get a network to call their own, will that open up a minor league of sorts?
So yeah, there are a lot of questions that are going to be answered. We're nowhere near the end of this story yet, and whatever direction it ends up going in, I think we're going to see a lot more UFC on our TVs, and that's a good thing.

AMADI: Can Zuffa afford to continue the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix?
Some would consider the logjam at 155 lbs. to be a problem for the UFC, but with so many high profile lightweights either riding lengthy winning streaks or just coming off one, Zuffa has options at lightweight that they can only dream of for other weight categories... like the heavyweight division.
If lightweight is MMA's deepest pool, then heavyweight must be one of MMA's discarded teardrops. There just isn't any way around the fact that the depth of the heavyweight division is severely lacking. This weekend at UFC 131, Junior Dos Santos meets Shane Carwin to decide Cain Valasquez' next opponent, but beyond that fight there just isn't a fresh, established challenger for the UFC heavyweight title.
Luckily for Zuffa, once discussion of UFC 131 comes to an end, discussion of Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum can begin. This event will feature two major heavyweight clashes, as Josh Barnett takes on Brett Rogers and Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem squares off against Fabricio Werdum.
However, to be quite honest, there just isn't any way to get excited about this heavyweight tournament. The fights are still awesome, but considering the gap between when this tournament was first announced and how long it will take to be completed, there just isn't a meaningful way to connect these bouts to one another. The casual fan doesn't remember that Sergei Kharitonov lathered Andrei Arlovski, or that Antonio Silva's domination of Fedor Emelianenko served a greater purpose than sending the sport's all-time greatest heavyweight into a 220 lb. catchweight bout.
Frankly, there isn't even a conceivable way to turn the successful completion of this tournament into anything positive. Anyone but Alistair Overeem winning the heavyweight tournament would invalidate the Strikeforce championship and create a situation where Zuffa has two world heavyweight champions, a guy who defeated one of them, and possibly a third man who could wind up being the actual winner of the tournament. Conversely, if Alistair Overeem wins the tournament, he would have outlasted every possible challenger to his title, and Zuffa would be forced to find him a new opponent anyway.
If Zuffa can get Nick Diaz into the UFC to fight Georges St. Pierre, then it would serve them well to do likewise with the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion and finally give this faux tournament a proper burial. With Cain Valasquez set to return, he could defend his championship by the end of this year, and the winner of that fight could meet the Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion in early 2012, sustaining interest until the UFC can absorb Strikeforce's heavyweight division in full.
Reader Question: If Alistair Overeem defeats Fabricio Werdum this month, should he fight the UFC Heavyweight Champion next or continue on in the heavyweight grand prix? Web visitors, comment below in our new Reader Comment Area (linked to Facebook). App users, send us your thoughts at mmatorch@gmail.com or visit our desktop website to comment.

PENICK: Kenny Florian - The Greatest Runner-up in Ultimate Fighter History
While the organization has only released two season-winners from their roster, eight previous runner-ups have been shown the door, with only one fighter establishing himself thus far as a title challenger.
Kenny Florian, who lost in the first finals fight in the show's history, has been the most successful and most consistent runner-up the reality show has ever produced. He may have lost in both of his shots at the UFC Lightweight Championship, but the fact that he made it there even once is a higher mark than any subsequent season runner-up can claim, and his level of success is something to which the loser of tonight's Ferguson-Nijem fight should aspire.
Though season ten runner-up Brendan Schaub has been making strides up the ladder in the heavyweight division, Florian is still the only fighter to truly break out after having lost their season finale.
Florian entered the house for the first season of TUF as an inexperienced 3-1 professional, still very early on in his career. Entering the middleweight tournament, Florian made it to the finals with a surprising win over Chris Leben in the semifinals, which came after Florian opened a nasty cut with a short elbow in the clinch.
He lost to Diego Sanchez in the first-ever Ultimate Fighter finals bout, and the loss immediately prompted a drop to welterweight. He picked up two wins straight wins before the UFC brought back the lightweight division, prompting his second drop in weight.
Stopping a fight for the third straight time with a rear-naked choke submission over Sam Stout, Florian was given a shot at Sean Sherk for the UFC Lightweight Title. It was in this fight with Sherk that Florian's major weakness in wrestling was exposed, with Sherk taking him down throughout the five round fight and taking the unanimous decision.
The title shot was a little too much too soon for Florian, but over the next two years he worked his way towards a second shot, winning six straight fights in increasingly impressive fashion.
This stretch saw him submit Dokonjonosuke Mishima, Din Thomas and Joe Stevenson by rear naked choke, with a submission win due to strikes over Alvin Robinson, a TKO over Joe Lauzon and a one-sided decision win over Roger Huerta added in.
He was sitting with a 9-2 UFC record, including eight stoppages, and the UFC rewarded him with a shot at then Lightweight Champ B.J. Penn.
Again Florian came up short in the big fight, as Penn held off numerous takedown attempts and out-struck Florian in their exchanges on the feet. Ultimately, Florian was submitted in the fourth round by rear naked choke himself.
Consecutive submissions of Clay Guida and Takanori Gomi after that fight had Florian in position to get to another title shot in the division, and this time all he had to do was get past unbeaten Gray Maynard. Easier said than done, however, as wrestling again proved to be his kryptonite, and Maynard frustrated him through three rounds with takedowns and control at UFC 118 last August to hand him his fourth loss in the UFC.
Now at 11-4 in the organization, Florian makes a drop in weight class once again, and will become the first fighter to compete in four different weight divisions in the UFC when he meets featherweight Diego Nunes at UFC 131 next week. A win in that fight will likely put Florian into a title fight again, this time against Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo.
The show has not produced a ton of elite level fighters for the UFC, and of those that have made it to the finals and lost, Florian has no equal in the organization. He's consistently performed at a very high level throughout his UFC run; and while he may have fallen short in the most important fights he's had so far, he's easily the best and most accomplished runner-up in Ultimate Fighter history.

Lessons learned from season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter”
Thirteen seasons in, any television show is going to feel stale, and "The Ultimate Fighter" has not escaped that fate. The show failed to excite throughout its 10-episode season.
In sitcom-land, this is usually when a long-lost daughter with a cute child who has a sassy catchphrase is introduced. Unfortunately for the UFC, Brock Lesnar had no sassy catchphrase, as his oft-repeated "Are we chicken s*** or chicken salad?" only served to confuse his fighters, and didn't prop up the ratings.
With just the live finale to go, we can now look back at the season and see what needs to be done to improve next season.
Go with exciting coaches over an "important match-up." The Brock Lesnar-Junior dos Santos match-up was to decide who the next heavyweight contender. That alone made that fight significant and exciting. It didn't need the TUF build-up to create interest. Lesnar and dos Santos showed themselves to be nice guys, but nice guys don't make watchable television.
Luckily, the UFC has already remedied that with the selection of Jason "Mayhem" Miller (pictured) and Michael Bisping for the coaches of TUF 14. Both men excel at getting under people's skin and running their mouths, which makes for much better television.
Share more about the fighters' stories. On this TUF cast, we had a devout Muslim, the son of a Baptist pastor, a man who was going through child-custody problems, and another father who kept the picture of his daughter with cornermen while he fought. They came from a diverse set of backgrounds and regions, and yet we only caught a glimpse of what made them interesting.
Let us get to know them, and we'll want to tune in and and cheer for (or against) these fighters. Not only that, it will make fans more interested in the fighters once they do reach the UFC.
Don't do anything to the Coaches Challenge. The episode where the coaches engage in a competition that has nothing to do with MMA is usually a highlight. This season, dos Santos, a Brazilian who knew nothing about American football, defeated Lesnar in a challenge that centered around American football. Leave it as is, unless the payout to coaches and fighters is upped.
Bring back the fight-in bouts. Taking away the requirement that fighters had to fight their way onto the show took away the action-packed first episodes. Fortunately, Dana White has already said that eliminating the fight-in bouts was a mistake, and that they will return for season 14.
What other changes would you like to see for "The Ultimate Fighter?" Will you tune in next season? Tell us in the comments or on Facebook.

UFC adding flyweight division and all main events will be five-rounders
The UFC rolled out two big news items on Thursday. During Dana White's talk with the media following the UFC 131 prefight press conference, he revealed that the flyweight division is on the way some time before the end of 2011 and that all UFC main events, following UFC 133, will be five-rounders. That includes non-title fights.
The promotion has begun to sign 125-pounders. White said he's considering a long-form tournament to decidethe first UFC flyweight champion, but that concept is far from set in stone.
The five-round fights has long been a debated topic. The UFC toyed with the idea earlier in the year. The promotion considered making the Brock Lesnar-Junior dos Santos fight a five-rounder. They also looked at the Phil Davis-Rashad Evans fight at UFC 133 and Chris Lytle vs. Dan Hardy at UFC on Versus 4, but decided to push back the idea because three-round bout agreements had already been signed.
"You're mentally training for a three-round fight. To come back and say, 'Oh, it's five rounds now,' you can't do that to a guy," said White.
White said the time has arrived.
"I like it. I think there's some fights that aren't title fights that are main events, and it ends up being three [rounds], and it should have been five. I'm a big fan of it, and we're working on that right now."
-- White met with Roy Nelson, called the meeting productive, but there is still no official word on "Big Country's" future with the promotion. White said the time has passed for fat jokes and he's not buying Nelson's explanation that he was sick before the Frank Mir fight at UFC 130.
"I said, 'The fat thing was funny for a minute. It's not funny anymore,'" White said of the meeting.
"The thing with Roy is, Roy feels like he's an athlete that can perform. He says, 'If you look at my entire career, I've performed at this weight,'" White said. "There's talks of him being sick the week before the fight. I don't not believe him. I guess he had walking pneumonia, but Frank Mir did, too. Frank Mir was sick that week, too."
-- Denver will host UFC 135 on Sept. 24. Jon Jones will defend his UFC light heavyweight against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Diego Sanchez will also face former UFC welterweight champ Matt Hughes.

QUOTABLES: Clay Guida says he's lost to tougher and beaten better than TUF 13 Finale opponent Anthony Pettis
-Clay Guida talks to ESPN.com about his fight this Saturday with the final WEC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale on Spike TV.
Penick's Analysis: This is part of what makes this fight so intriguing. Because of "the kick" in December and the UFC offering up a title shot to him, Pettis has a target on his back for all the guys in the UFC that have been fighting the perceived higher level of competition for a long time. Guida and many others are in a spot where they say, "Wait a minute, who is this guy? And why does he get to leap in front of all of us?" Guida wants to prove that Pettis doesn't deserve those accolades, while Pettis will be doing everything he can to prove he belongs. It makes for a great dynamic between both and guarantees an awesome fight this Saturday.
