QUOTABLES: Nick Diaz prior to UFC 137 removal said he feels "stuck" in the fight game

"If you look at my life over a long term period I couldn?t give a s***. I honestly don't know, if I got locked up right now, I don't know if I'd want to come back. I'm coming in here every day, going, 'Why the f*** am I doing this right now?' I could be, like, f*** this whole thing... I've been trapped in this prison, and after every fight there is another... Am I looking forward to the fight [with Georges St-Pierre? No. If I fight, I lose, no matter what, win or lose. If I fight. Period. I don't look forward to anything like that. I look past that, like, 'Holy s***... if I win this s*** I'm f***ing stuck in this game.'"

-Prior to being dropped from the UFC 137 main event for his failure to cooperate with the UFC on media appearances this week, Nick Diaz conducted a lengthy interview with Fighter's Only magazine (available now in the U.K., in two weeks in the U.S.).

Penick's Analysis: It's been no secret that Diaz is absolutely in the sport to make money. He clearly doesn't enjoy what he's chosen to do professionally, and that leads to some of the behavior that was on display this week. He's a very different fighter than just about everyone in the sport, and these quotes are absolutely telling as to what his thought process is. I wouldn't presume to say he tried to get himself out of this fight, because I don't think he backs down from challenges, but he's been enabled so long to get away with whatever he wants to get away with that he probably thought he could do whatever he wanted this week and it wouldn't come back to bite him like it has. Still, even though he's lost out on that massive fight with St-Pierre, maybe it doesn't even bother him that much if this is how he feels about fighting in general. It's impossible to know what's going through his head, but quotes like these don't suggest someone who is all that thrilled with their chosen profession.
