Strikeforce officials announced the bout overnight, with the fight expected to be a part of the night's preliminary card.
"JZ" has just one victory over the last three years, with three losses and two no contests in that stretch as well. His two fights in Strikeforce have seen him drop a close decision to Josh Thomson and then accidentally poke Justin Wilcox in the eye, leading to a no contest in that most recent bout last month.
Beerbohm has had a rough 2011 so far. After beginning his career with 16 straight wins, "Fancy Pants" has dropped both of his fights this year. First was a decision loss to Pat Healy in February, and then he was defeated in just over a minute and a half by Shinya Aoki in April.
The July 30 event is headlined by the heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson, and the main card airs live on Showtime.
Penick's Analysis: This is a very important fight for both guys, and the loser is probably not going to be kept on Strikeforce's lightweight roster. They've each had rough stretches here, though Cavalcante's goes back considerably further and Beerbohm's problems have been recent. Still, each is equally in desperate need of getting back on track, and that will make for a good fight on the preliminary card in Chicago.
